PM directs NDMA to expedite relief operations, ensure preparedness amid rising water levels 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to step up relief operations and stay fully equipped to deal with possible flooding as river levels continue to surge.

Chairing a review session on the ongoing rescue and aid measures in flood-affected regions, he urged authorities to ensure that early alerts are issued promptly and that people residing near rivers and vulnerable zones are evacuated without delay.

During the meeting, the NDMA chairman updated the prime minister on the flood situation, the rising flow in rivers, and the ongoing support being provided to displaced communities.

The premier instructed that coordination with provincial administrations and their disaster management authorities be kept seamless to strengthen the overall response. He further directed that efforts be expanded to trace those still missing in inundated areas.

Officials also briefed the gathering about the mass displacement triggered by the floods and the rescue operations currently underway.

The meeting was informed of the critical flood conditions in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers at Trimmu Barrage, Panjnad Barrage, Head Balloki, Head Sidhnai, Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulemanki, and Head Islam.

It was also informed in the meeting that relief consignments are being dispatched on a continuous basis to the flood-hit areas.
