DG ISPR, info minister and NDMA chief brief media on relief operations in flood-hit areas 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, alongside Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider, briefed the media on the ongoing emergency response efforts being carried out in the wake of relentless monsoon rains and severe flooding across parts of Pakistan.

The DG ISPR provided an update on the military’s role in the nationwide relief operations.

He said that on the direction of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the Pakistan Army has scaled up its response, rescuing nearly 6,903 individuals from flood-hit areas.

He said that medical aid is being delivered through nine established camps in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where the situation remains particularly dire.

To bolster relief measures, eight dedicated army units have been deployed throughout the province, with two battalions assigned specifically to Buner district.

The DG ISPR said that army aviation units are also actively engaged, supporting both evacuation efforts and the transportation of essential supplies to cut-off regions.

Speaking on the occasion Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, emphasized that, under the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's direction, relief operations have been significantly accelerated.

“Coordinated efforts are underway among the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the armed forces, and both federal and provincial governments to ensure an effective response to the crisis,”. he said.

According to Tarar, around 25,000 people have so far been moved to safer locations as a precautionary measure.

Speaking on the extent of the human toll, NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider reported that the natural calamities triggered by the ongoing downpours—including landslides and flash floods—have claimed 670 lives and left approximately 1,000 people injured. The bodies of several individuals previously reported missing have now been recovered.

Looking ahead, authorities warned that additional rounds of intense rainfall are expected to continue until August 23. Preparations for emergency management during this period are already in motion.

Meanwhile, relief packages comprising food and medical supplies are being dispatched to five severely affected districts as part of the Prime Minister’s initiative.

Since August 17, a total of 25,000 people have received medical assistance and been rescued from dangerous conditions.
