Pakistan proposes two crucial themes for UN Water Conference

New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has proposed transboundary water cooperation and the water-climate-environment nexus as key themes for inclusion in the interactive dialogue of the upcoming 2026 United Nations (UN) Water Conference.

Delivering a statement during the organizational session of the 2026 UN Water Conference in New York, Pakistan’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized that the conference represents a pivotal moment to intensify global efforts in achieving SDG 6—ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all.

He highlighted the urgency of tackling the pressing water challenges that transcend national borders and require collective action for long-term solutions.

Ambassador Ahmad also underscored that Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives, such as the Living Indus and Recharge Pakistan programs, offer significant benefits beyond just water management.

These projects aim to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve water quality, enhance resilience against floods, and promote biodiversity conservation.

It is pertinent to mention that through these efforts, Pakistan is not only working toward sustainable water practices but also contributing to broader environmental and climate goals.
