Islamabad (Staff Report): The federal cabinet has reduced the prices of at least 139 medicines by up to 8 percent.
The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi accorded approval for notifying maximum retail prices of 139 new additional pack sizes of already registered drugs, which will help reduce the prices of the drugs, said a official statement.
According to medical experts, patients with blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems and those who need pain killers will be able to get larger packs of medicines at a lower price.
They said under the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) rules, if a company is selling 10 tablets for Rs100, it will have to reduce the price of a pack of 20 tablets by 5pc so the price is then Rs190. If the company packs 30 tablets in a single box, its prices will be reduced by 8pc.
