Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Outgoing Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday held separate farewell meetings with President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
President Alvi expressed good wishes to General Bajwa during their meeting. While, PM Shehbaz organised a farewell luncheon in honour of General Bajwa.
The change of command ceremony for the new chief of army staff (COAS) will take place on Tuesday at 9 am.
According to the ISPR, marking the time-honoured tradition that symbolises the seamless transition of the military leadership, outgoing Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa will hand over the “baton of command” to General Asim Munir.
The passing of the baton from an outgoing COAS to an incoming one conveys the cardinal message to the troops the military leadership continues without a break in command.
General Asim Munir will be the 17th army chief to assume the command of the Pakistan Army.
Last week, Munir was appointed as the next army chief and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
President Dr Arif Alvi approved a summery sent by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for appointing Lieutenant General Asim Munir as the next army chief and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as CJCSC.
