Punjab govt's Rs47bn 'Nigahban Ramadan Package' to support 4.2 million low-income households: Azma Bukhari 

Lahore (Web Desk): The Punjab government has announced a large-scale relief initiative for the holy month of Ramadan, aimed at supporting millions of low-income families across the province.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said that under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision, the provincial administration is launching a historic Rs47 billion “Nigahban Ramadan Package” this year, which is expected to benefit 4.2 million families.

She explained that the program targets individuals with a monthly income of less than Rs45,000. Special cards for eligible beneficiaries have already been printed and will soon be delivered to their homes to ensure they can access assistance in a timely manner.

Bukhari noted that around 3 million families received relief under a similar initiative last year, but the scope has been expanded this time to include a significantly higher number of people.

She added that by February 5, the government will have compiled complete data on residents across the province to help ensure the distribution process remains organized and transparent.

The minister further said that at least 2,000 people in every tehsil will be provided meals through the Dastarkhwan program.

In addition, 65 subsidized bazaars have been set up in 30 districts, where essential food items will be available at prices Rs10 to Rs15 lower than those in the open market, offering some relief to consumers grappling with rising costs during Ramadan.
