Last hospital in northern Gaza out of service following Israeli raid: WHO

Geneva (Web Desk): The Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last major functioning medical facility in northern Gaza, has been rendered inoperable after a devastating attack by Israeli forces, leaving the remaining 75,000 residents of the area vulnerable.

The raid caused severe damage to critical sections of the hospital, including the laboratory, surgical units, and medical storage.

Reports suggest that the hospital’s director, Dr. Abu Safiya, was detained during the attack and is currently unreachable by the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the aftermath of the assault, patients in critical condition were relocated to the Indonesian Hospital, which is ill-equipped to handle such severe cases due to a lack of necessary medical supplies and infrastructure.

The WHO warned that the forced movement of patients in these conditions greatly endangers their lives. In response, WHO has been planning a mission to transport these patients safely to southern Gaza for continued care.

The attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital is part of a disturbing pattern of repeated strikes on Gaza’s health system over the past two months.

Health workers and medical facilities have been targeted almost daily, with the most recent bombings resulting in the deaths of 50 people, including five medical staff from Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Despite the escalating crisis, international medical teams have been repeatedly blocked from entering Gaza.

Even so, the WHO has been able to deliver some critical supplies, including fuel, medical equipment, blood, and food, while also facilitating the transfer of patients to other hospitals.
