Trump safe after Gunman opens fire at White House Correspondents' Dinner, suspect detained 

Washington (Web Deak): Chaos erupted at a major political gathering in Washington, D.C., when gunfire near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner forced the sudden evacuation of President Donald Trump and other senior officials.

Authorities said a man armed with multiple weapons attempted to push past security at the Washington Hilton, the venue hosting the high-profile event. As he moved toward a Secret Service checkpoint, shots were fired, triggering a rapid response from law enforcement and panic among attendees.

Officials confirmed that Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance were immediately escorted out along with cabinet members. All were reported safe, with no injuries among the top leadership.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California. Investigators believe he acted alone, though they are still working to determine what motivated the attack.

Reports indicate that the man was carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives when he rushed toward the security area at approximately 8:36p.m. What followed was a tense exchange of gunfire between him and security personnel.

During the confrontation, a security officer was struck in the chest, but a bulletproof vest prevented serious harm. The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.

The attacker was not wounded during the incident but was taken into custody and later transported to a hospital for medical evaluation. He is expected to face serious federal charges, including using a firearm in a violent act and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, with a court appearance set for Monday.

The incident also revived memories of the Attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan, as the same venue is often associated with that historic attack, adding an unsettling layer to the night’s events.

After the situation was brought under control, Trump stated that the incident would not alter his position on tensions involving Iran.

While he said there was no clear evidence connecting the attack to the conflict, he added that “you never know” as investigators continue to examine the motive.
