Israel 'won't be hitting' Qatar again after last week's attack, says US President Donald Trump

Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump on Monday asserted that Israel would not launch more strikes on Qatar following the repeated bombardments of Doha last week, which Israel claimed were aimed at targeting senior Hamas leaders.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said, “Well, he won’t be hitting in Qatar,” while praising Qatar as a reliable ally, noting that “a lot of people don’t know that.” He added, somewhat vaguely, that Netanyahu might still pursue Hamas figures elsewhere.

The president’s remarks left uncertainty about future Israeli moves, suggesting the possibility of continued action against Hamas operatives beyond Qatar. Trump also dismissed a report by Axios that Netanyahu had personally notified him before last Tuesday’s strikes on Doha. “No, they didn’t,” he said, adding that he learned of the attacks “the same way you did.”

According to the White House, the US military only alerted the administration once the missiles were already in flight, leaving Trump with no opportunity to block the operation.

Meanwhile, regional leaders convened in Doha for an emergency Arab-Islamic summit where they warned that the Israeli attack on Qatar posed grave risks for the broader Middle East.

The summit’s final communiqué, released by Qatar’s state news agency QNA, denounced the attacks, declared full solidarity with Qatar, and stressed that Israeli actions undermine prospects for peace.

The statement also called for a collective stand against Israeli efforts to impose a new reality in the region, warning that such maneuvers directly endanger both regional and global security.
