'Roshan Maeeshat Power Package': PM unveils Rs22.98 per unit electricity for industry, agriculture

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced a three-year electricity relief plan aimed at supporting the industrial and agricultural sectors by providing power at a reduced rate of Rs22.98 per unit.

Unveiling the 'Roshan Maeeshat Power Package' during a meeting with experts from both sectors and representatives of the business community, the prime minister said the initiative would be enforced from November 2025 until October 2028.

Under the plan, the electricity rate for industries—currently Rs34 per unit—and for agriculture—Rs38 per unit—will be lowered to a uniform rate of Rs22.98 per unit.

The prime minister made it clear that the cost of this subsidy would not be transferred to domestic consumers or any other segment of society.

He commended Power Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for formulating the plan, emphasizing that revitalizing industry and agriculture was central to economic progress and employment generation.

PM Shehbaz noted that the government was actively working to make these sectors more competitive in the regional market and to provide maximum ease to businesses.

He recalled that under last year’s winter package, the industrial and agricultural sectors had used an additional 410 gigawatts of electricity, which had boosted production, exports, and job creation.

Acknowledging the challenging path from economic turmoil to recovery, the prime minister credited the progress to the efforts of the government’s economic team and the cooperation of business stakeholders.

“The growth of our industry and agriculture will eventually free the nation from the burden of debt,” he remarked.

Citing improved economic indicators as evidence of effective policymaking, PM Shehbaz called for continued determination and collaboration to achieve a stable and prosperous Pakistan.
