Ongoing diplomatic contacts primarily focused on bringing end to war in region, says Iran's FM spokesperson Baghaei

Tehran (Web Desk): Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has dismissed recent speculation about possible diplomatic breakthroughs between Iran and the United States (US), stressing that the differences between the two sides remain deep and significant.

He made it clear during a media briefing in Tehran that it is too early to suggest that any agreement is close, given the current state of tensions.

Baghaei explained that all ongoing diplomatic contacts and negotiations are primarily focused on bringing an end to the war in the region.

He further revealed that a high-level delegation from Qatar is currently in Tehran holding important discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while Pakistan is actively playing a mediating role behind the scenes in these efforts.

Emphasising the sensitive and complex nature of diplomacy, he said it is not realistic to expect definitive outcomes after only a few rounds of talks, or even within weeks or months, although he expressed cautious optimism that continued engagement through diplomatic channels could eventually lead to positive results.

Addressing the issue of Iran’s nuclear programme, the spokesperson stated that no discussions on the matter are currently taking place at this stage.

He added that bringing up highly sensitive topics such as highly enriched uranium in the present negotiations could stall the diplomatic process and prevent the parties from reaching any meaningful conclusion.
