Peshawar (Web Desk): The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has issued an assassination threat against former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
According to the threat alert issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s CTD wing, “terrorists are planning to assassinate Imran Khan, for which they have sought assistance from an assassin in Afghanistan”.
The text of the threat alert has been shared with various forums, according to which an Afghan assassin has been given the responsibility to target Imran Khan. However, the said assassin handed over the responsibility to others.
The CTD has directed all concerned agencies to take all possible measures for the security of the former prime minister in the wake of the threat alert.
Last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Ministry of Interior to ensure effective and foolproof security for Imran Khan.
The prime minister issued the directives in view of the reports of security threat to the life of the PTI chief.
The Interior Ministry also sent an urgent letter to the Home Secretaries of the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, asking to take strict security measures for Imran Khan.
The same directive was issued to the Inspector General Police (IGP) and the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad.
PM Shehbaz also directed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to personally monitor the situation and ensure implementation of the orders.
The letter instructed about putting in place foolproof security arrangements as Imran Khan moved across the country.
It also stressed deployment of a bomb disposal squad outside the resident of the former prime minister in Bani Gala.
The authorities concerned were warned that no negligence would be allowed regarding the security measures, particularly during Imran Khan’s public engagements and gatherings.
