In meeting with PM Shehbaz, IMF chief acknowledges Pakistan’s reforms 

Davos (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday shared an update on Pakistan’s economic turnaround with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, highlighting signs of improvement in key macroeconomic indicators, ongoing stabilization efforts, and advances made in structural reforms.

He reiterated that the government remains firmly focused on fiscal responsibility, strengthening revenue collection, and ensuring long-term, sustainable economic growth.

The interaction took place in Davos, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the 56th annual World Economic Forum (WEF), according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.

During the meeting, the IMF chief acknowledged Pakistan’s reform measures and expressed appreciation for the progress achieved so far, while underlining the importance of maintaining the reform drive to build durable economic strength.

Both sides also exchanged views on the broader global economic environment, the difficulties faced by emerging economies, and the value of multilateral cooperation in preserving financial stability.

In a separate engagement on Wednesday, PM Shehbaz met Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa on the sidelines of the WEF’s annual gathering.

As per the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the Palestinian leader called on PM Shehbaz and introduced himself during the meeting.

The Palestinian prime minister thanked Pakistan for its consistent and principled stance in support of the Palestinian people, and also expressed gratitude for Islamabad’s active role at international platforms in advocating for the Palestinian cause.
