PM Shehbaz in Switzerland for WEF annual meeting 

Davos (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif touched down in Switzerland on Tuesday to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Conference 2026 in Davos.

The WEF, a Swiss-based non-governmental organisation, gathers leaders from politics, business, academia, and cultural sectors to deliberate on global challenges. The annual conference acts as a stage for world leaders and business executives to discuss economic hurdles, global policies, and innovative strategies.

At Zurich International Airport, PM Shehbaz was received by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Muhammad Bilal, Ambassador to Switzerland Marghoub Saleem, and Pakistan’s diplomatic staff stationed in the country.

In a post on X, PM Shehbaz remarked on his arrival stating that he had come to advance Pakistan’s engagement at the forum with global trade and investment partners.

"Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform journey is unlocking profound opportunities, driven by a resilient and entrepreneurial workforce and significant potential across energy, agriculture, minerals, and emerging technologies. We are ready to harness this potential into mutually beneficial economic cooperation and long-term investment," the premier said.

Accompanying the prime minister is a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, Minister for Information Ataullah Tarar, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and other senior officials.

According to the Foreign Office (FO) the WEF meeting will run from January 20 to 22.

The statement added that the prime minister’s schedule includes "multiple substantive engagements", such as attending the WEF’s Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) session on "Restoring a Spirit of Dialogue in a Divided World". He will also host and lead a Pakistan-specific "High-level Business Roundtable" with corporate leaders.

"On the sidelines, the prime minister will interact with several world leaders, including business executives," the statement said.

"Articulating Pakistan’s perspective on global and regional peace and development and highlighting the government’s vision and achievements in the areas of economy, trade and investment opportunities will be part of the prime minister’s key messages during the visit," the statement said.

The FO statement added that the WEF Annual Meeting brings together political leaders, business executives, heads of international organisations, and civil society representatives to discuss current geopolitical, economic, social, and environmental challenges.
