DPM Dar to embark on US visit next week for key UNSC engagements

Islamabad (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will undertake an official visit to the United States next week to participate in high-level signature events marking Pakistan’s Presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York. The visit will also include key diplomatic engagements in Washington, D.C.

In New York, the deputy premier will chair a high-level Open Debate of the Security Council on the theme: “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” This debate will focus on exploring avenues to strengthen multilateral cooperation and enhance the role of diplomacy and mediation in the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

DPM Dar will also preside over the Quarterly Open Debate of the Security Council on the “Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question,” reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to peace and justice in the region.

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister will chair a high-level UNSC briefing on enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The event underscores Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote synergy between the UN and the OIC in support of international peace and security.

Demonstrating Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, Mr. Dar will also attend a high-level Conference on the “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.”

During his stay in New York, the Deputy Prime Minister is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts and senior UN officials to advance Pakistan’s multilateral and regional priorities.

Further engagements are also scheduled in Washington, D.C, where Mr. Dar will meet with key U.S. officials and stakeholders to discuss matters of mutual interest.
