5.8 magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad, parts of KP and GB 

Islamabad (Web Desk): An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the richter scale jolted Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Monday, with monitoring authorities confirming that it originated roughly 10 kilometres beneath the ground.

The tremors extended beyond the federal capital, reaching parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Swat, as well as Hunza in Gilgit-Baltistan, where residents also felt the shaking.

Separately, figures released by the United States Geological Survey (v USGS) placed the earthquake’s intensity slightly higher at 5.9 on the Richter Scale.

According to the USGS, the epicentre was located about 50 kilometres north-northwest of Barishal, and the quake struck at a depth of 35 kilometres.

The incident follows a recent bout of seismic activity in the country, as an earlier earthquake measuring 5.2 hit several areas of Karachi on December 16, 2025, sparking alarm among the public.
