PML-N nominates Rana Sanaullah for senate by-poll

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated senior party leader and former interior minister Rana Sanaullah Khan as its candidate for the upcoming Senate by-election from Punjab.

The decision was confirmed by party insiders on Monday, who pointed to Sanaullah’s deep political experience and administrative skills as major factors behind his selection.

The Senate seat in question became vacant after the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ejaz Chaudhry.

In light of this, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has scheduled a by-election to fill the position, which will be held on September 9.

With Punjab being a politically significant province, the contest is expected to attract considerable attention, especially as both PML-N and PTI work to strengthen their influence in the region.

Rana Sanaullah is widely regarded as a seasoned political figure and a trusted ally of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Over the years, he has served in several key roles, including Punjab’s law minister and later as the federal interior minister during the tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition government.

Known for his tough stance on law and order and his unwavering party loyalty, Sanaullah’s nomination is seen as a strategic move by the PML-N as it prepares for a tightly contested by-election.
