Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended their warm wishes to the people of Pakistan and Muslims across the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH, urging the nation to reflect on the lessons of Hijrat-e-Madina and the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) as a means to strengthen unity and social cohesion.
In separate messages issued on the occasion, the president and the premier urged citizens to promote patience, respect for the law, national harmony, and a spirit of collective responsibility to help advance the country's development and prosperity.
In his message marking the beginning of the new Hijri year, President Zardari said that the occasion recalls the historic migration of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions from Makkah to Madina. He described this landmark event as a powerful example of endurance, sacrifice, steadfastness, brotherhood, selflessness and complete faith in Allah.
He said that the migration to Madina illustrates that the true progress of nations is not determined solely by material wealth or resources, but by adherence to moral principles such as justice, honesty, collective responsibility and national unity.
President Zardari noted that the state founded in Madina established enduring values of tolerance, equality, rule of law, mutual respect and public welfare that continue to inspire societies around the world.
He called upon Pakistanis to nurture the values of tolerance, compassion, brotherhood and respect in their personal and social lives. The president stressed the importance of rejecting sectarian divisions, extremism, hatred and prejudice, and encouraged citizens to contribute towards building a peaceful, stable and prosperous Pakistan
Referring to the holy month of Muharram, he said it also reminds Muslims of the extraordinary sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the timeless message of Karbala. He stated that the life and struggle of Imam Hussain (RA) motivate people to align their actions with the greater good and remain united while addressing the economic and social challenges confronting the country.
The president said the spirit of Karbala teaches resilience in the face of adversity and inspires people to overcome divisions and despair. He added that stronger social unity can enable the nation to successfully tackle every challenge before it.
Quoting a saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), President Zardari said believers are like one body, sharing each other’s pain and suffering. He emphasized the need to promote compassion, sympathy, sacrifice, cooperation and brotherhood at both individual and collective levels.
President Zardari further underscored the importance of putting national interests above personal differences, prejudices and individual gains.
"By standing together, helping those in need and embracing shared responsibility, Pakistan can emerge as a stronger, more secure and more prosperous nation," the president asserted.
The president urged that the nation to welcome the new Hijri year with a renewed commitment to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah, respect for the rule of law, stronger national unity and active participation in the country’s development.
President Zardari also prayed that the new Islamic year brings peace, blessings, mercy and prosperity to Pakistan, the Muslim Ummah and people throughout the world.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, expressed happiness that the beginning of the Islamic year coincides with encouraging reports of a peaceful settlement of the major dispute involving Iran and the United States.
He stated that the entire nation deserves appreciation, adding that Pakistan's sincere efforts aimed at promoting peace and dialogue have produced positive results.
The prime minister also called upon the public to make honesty, hard work, mutual respect, tolerance, and national solidarity guiding principles in both their personal and collective lives.
