Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari on Friday welcomed a ruling by the Lahore High Court that supports the government’s decision to end the provision of free electricity units for employees in the power sector.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the minister said that, for the first time, this long-standing benefit had been withdrawn under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He noted that the court had accepted the petition filed by the Power Division, effectively clearing the path for the reform’s implementation. According to Leghari, the removal of free electricity units had been a consistent public demand, and the government remains focused on promoting fairness and transparency within the energy sector.
The minister also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to deliver on what he described as a key public concern, reaffirming the government’s commitment to taking further measures aimed at broader economic improvement and public welfare.
