Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz distributes allotment letters for free labour housing units

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated a major initiative aimed at improving the welfare of labourers, distributing allotment letters for residential flats among workers during a ceremony held in the city.

Addressing the event, she said the government was rapidly advancing its mission to provide shelter to low-income families, describing it as a core priority to ensure that every deserving citizen has a roof over their head.

She announced that in the first phase alone, 720 residential flats are being provided completely free of cost to eligible labourers. She further noted that each flat has been constructed at a cost of Rs3.5 million, which is being fully borne by the provincial government. She also shared that an additional 500 houses in Taxila are nearing completion and will be allotted soon.

Referring to the “Apna Chhat Apna Ghar” programme, the Punjab CM said that the government has achieved significant milestones in a remarkably short period, claiming that within just 15 months, ownership of homes has been secured for 100,000 families.

She added that in a time of rising inflation, home construction had become nearly impossible for low-income groups, but the Punjab government had turned this challenge into a practical reality.

Maryam Nawaz also highlighted other social protection measures for workers, stating that the labour community has been provided assistance worth Rs40 billion through ration cards.

Calling the sanitation initiative a model recognised at an international level, she said its scope has now been expanded across the entire province.

The Punjab CM congratulated the workers who received allotment letters, saying that having one’s own home is a great blessing, and assured that the government would continue to use all available resources to resolve workers’ issues and improve their living standards.
