Renowned actor, broadcaster S.M Saleem remembered on 36th death anniversary

Lahore (Web Desk): The 36th death anniversary of renowned actor and broadcaster S. M. Saleem is being observed today (Monday).

He was widely admired for his contributions to radio drama and broadcasting during the early decades of the medium.

Saleem was born on August 18, 1929, in Delhi. He began his professional life with All India Radio, where he developed his reputation as a talented voice artist and performer. After the partition of the subcontinent, he migrated to Pakistan and continued his broadcasting career by joining Radio Pakistan, working at its Lahore and Karachi stations.

During his time with Radio Pakistan, he participated in several memorable radio plays. Among the most prominent was the classic drama Rustam and Sohrab.

In that production, the character of Rustam was portrayed by Z. A. Bukhari, while S. M. Saleem played the role of Sohrab, a performance that earned significant appreciation from audiences.

In another production titled “Manto Rama,” Saleem took on the role of the celebrated writer Saadat Hasan Manto.

S. M. Saleem passed away on this day in 1990 in Houston in the United States (US).
