At UN, Pakistan reaffirms support for UNAMA's efforts for peace, stability in Afghanistan

New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has reiterated its strong support for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and its ongoing efforts to foster peace, stability, and security in Afghanistan.

The position was reaffirmed by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while addressing the UN Security Council during the adoption of a resolution extending UNAMA’s mandate.

Speaking at the session, the envoy stressed that Pakistan has repeatedly drawn attention to the escalating terrorism threat originating from Afghanistan, describing it as one of the most pressing challenges confronting the country.

He noted that the growing menace has serious consequences for Afghanistan’s neighbouring states, with Pakistan being particularly affected.

Asim Iftikhar Ahmad further stated that Pakistan remains deeply concerned by reports that certain Taliban elements are maintaining links with multiple terrorist organisations and are offering them protection and sanctuary.

The Pakistani envoy also emphasized that UNAMA’s reporting should remain objective and balanced, while adequately reflecting the legitimate security concerns of countries bordering Afghanistan, which continue to face significant threats emanating from Afghan territory.
