UNAMA report brutalities of Taliban regime, reveals dire situation of Afghan people

Kabul (Web Desk): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has described a worsening humanitarian and human rights situation in the country, pointing to ongoing state control measures and what it calls widespread violations of basic freedoms under the Taliban authorities.

In its latest findings, the mission said that restrictions imposed on Afghan women remain firmly in place, especially in relation to education, access to employment, and the ability to move freely. It added that these limitations have now continued into the fifth year since their enforcement.

The report also challenges the Taliban’s repeated assertions of a blanket amnesty. UNAMA noted that individuals who previously served in Afghanistan’s former security forces are still being pursued. It reported that 23 former personnel have been detained, 9 have allegedly faced harsh torture, and 5 have been confirmed killed.

Additionally, the mission highlighted persistent and severe controls over the media environment. It stated that censorship remains intense, with the television broadcaster Rah-e-Farda still suspended due to its critical coverage of government policies.
