Live broadcast briefly halted as Israeli strike hits Iranian state TV building in Tehran

Tehran (Web Desk/Agencies): Iran's state television resumed its live programming shortly after an Israeli airstrike targeted the headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Tehran on Monday.

According to International and Iranian media reports, the incident took place while a presenter was live on air, reportedly criticizing Israel, before abruptly leaving the broadcast. Iranian media outlets shared a video of the moment, showing the sudden disruption caused by the attack.

Hassan Abedini, a senior official at IRIB, confirmed the strike and issued a strong condemnation.

“The Zionist regime, the enemy of the Iranian nation, minutes ago conducted a military operation against the Islamic Republic of Iran news network”, he said.

He added, “The regime (Israel) was unaware of the fact that the voice of the Islamic revolution and the great Iran will not be silenced with a military operation.”

The Israeli defense minister also confirmed the attack, which marked another escalation in ongoing hostilities between the two countries. Iran’s Mehr News Agency shared visuals of the strike's aftermath on social media platform X, while Iran’s Press TV posted a video documenting the damage to the building.

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, “live programmes were briefly halted at the IRIB News Network but returned to normal a few minutes afterwards.”

The strike came shortly after reports emerged of Israeli airstrikes on a civilian residential neighborhood in Tehran, adding to the tension.
