During UNSC meeting, Russia and other countries condemn US for exacerbating tensions over Iran

New York (Web Desk): In a significant address to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Russia’s representative strongly criticized the United States (US) for exacerbating tensions over Iran, accusing Washington of spreading fear and panic related to the situation in the country.

The Russian diplomat made it clear that Russia vehemently condemns any efforts to interfere in Iran’s internal matters and rejects US threats as well as any use of force against Iran.

The Russian envoy emphasized that external powers were seeking to take advantage of the ongoing unrest in Iran, with the ultimate goal of destabilizing the Islamic Republic and inflicting harm on its sovereignty.

He underscored that such actions not only violate international norms but also exacerbate tensions in an already fragile region.

Furthermore, the Russian representative reiterated Russia's unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and lives of Iranian citizens.

He highlighted Russia’s strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran, stressing that any external attempts to undermine Iran's stability would be opposed by Moscow.

In the same Security Council meeting, ambassadors from France and Latvia raised concerns about the detention of protesters in Iran, calling for the immediate release of all individuals who had been arrested during ongoing demonstrations.

They urged the Iranian government to show restraint and respect for human rights amid the protests, emphasizing the need for dialogue and peaceful solutions to the country's challenges.

This exchange highlights the deepening divisions in the UN Security Council over how to address the crisis in Iran.

While Russia continues to stand firmly by Iran, opposing foreign interference and external pressures, other Western nations, such as France, have called for more action to protect the rights of protesters and address the growing unrest within the country.
