Tensions escalate in India’s Manipur amid clashes between residents and security forces

New Delhi / Imphal (Web Desk): Anger is rising in different parts of India amid criticism of government policies and alleged ethnic discrimination, with separatist sentiments reportedly resurfacing in some regions.

The latest reports indicate that the situation in the state of Manipur has become increasingly volatile, with violent clashes breaking out between local residents and Indian security forces.

In Manipur, restrictions imposed by security forces on the movement of local people and limitations on access to certain areas have triggered strong public reactions. Protesters, angered by these measures, reportedly set fire to two vehicles belonging to security forces.

During the clashes, several personnel were also reportedly taken hostage, further escalating tensions in the region.

Security forces responded by using tear gas and force to disperse the crowds, leading to reports of multiple injuries among civilians. The situation remains tense, with fears of further escalation.

Analysts suggest that ongoing grievances related to governance, minority rights, and regional autonomy have contributed to growing unrest, particularly in northeastern states like Manipur.
