Google Translate goes beyond literal translations with AI advances

California (Web Desk): Google Translate is now moving beyond just word-for-word translations, especially when sentences include idioms or expressions.

Google has incorporated advanced technologies, such as generative AI (Gemini), into its translation system, which helps interpret idioms, slang, and cultural references based on their meaning and context, rather than providing literal translations.

According to Google’s report, if a sentence contains an idiom, the system now focuses on conveying the overall meaning more accurately, rather than translating individual words.

While machine translations are still not as accurate as human translators and errors can occur, especially when idioms are highly specific or unconventional, Google’s new AI capabilities are helping reduce such mistakes.
