European union Declares Israel’s new settlements illegal, demands immediate halt

Brussels (Web Desk): The European Union, Germany, and the Turkish Foreign Ministry have strongly condemned Israel’s latest settlement expansion plans, declaring them illegal under international law and calling for their immediate halt.

The criticism follows an announcement by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who approved a plan aimed at separating East Jerusalem from the West Bank — a move widely seen as an attempt to undermine the establishment of a future Palestinian state.

According to international media outlets, the EU, Germany, Turkey, and several other nations have demanded that Israel immediately cancel the settlement project.

Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, stated that Israeli settlement activity is a violation of international law and warned that these plans further weaken the prospects for a two-state solution.

Germany also urged Israel to stop construction of settlements in the West Bank, emphasizing the damage such actions cause to peace efforts.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry described Israel’s decision as a clear breach of United Nations resolutions, adding that the creation of an independent Palestinian state remains the only path to lasting peace in the region.
