Beijing: Trump hails 'extremely positive' talks with President Xi, invites Chinese counterpart for official US visit

Beijing (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has declared the beginning of a renewed and more robust chapter in ties between Washington and Beijing while speaking at a state banquet hosted in his honour in the Chinese capital.

Speaking about his visit and the warm reception he received, Trump said, “It is an honour for me to be here today. The tremendous welcome we have received in China is unlike anything seen in the past.”

The US president described his meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping as highly successful, saying both sides held “extremely positive” and constructive discussions.

He stated that mutual respect is the first step toward progress and noted that both countries share this understanding.

President Trump further said that relations between China and the US are a key factor influencing global affairs and expressed confidence that the talks held during the visit would produce beneficial results for both nations in the future.

Emphasising economic partnership, Trump said trade and financial cooperation are essential in the current global situation.

The US president added that he wanted to take business ties between Washington and Beijing to new heights and believes the people of both countries can contribute significantly to each other’s prosperity and economic development.

In an effort to strengthen this renewed phase of friendship, President Trump formally invited President Xi Jinping to pay an official visit to the United States on September 24.

He also expressed hope that improved strategic relations between the two world powers would help promote stability and peace across the globe.
