Pakistan to expose coordinated anti-peace disinformation campaign, says info minister Tarar

Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said on Thursday that a coordinated wave of negative reporting originating from outside Pakistan was being actively pushed to spread confusion and misleading narratives, with the apparent objective of undermining Pakistan’s role in promoting lasting peace in the region.

In a statement posted on X, he described the campaign as being driven by unnamed sources and individuals presented as officials, claiming it was a reflection of frustration among those who do not support peace efforts.

The minister maintained that established facts, along with verification by reliable local media outlets and multiple fact-checking platforms, had already disproved these claims.

Tarar further stated that it was clearly understood that certain groups opposed to peace initiatives were behind such narratives, as they were unable to accept Pakistan’s contributions toward regional stability and its ongoing efforts in combating terrorism supported from abroad.

He said that those promoting the campaign appeared dissatisfied with progress on eliminating terrorism, resolving disputes, and advancing peace in the region.

Tarar added that Pakistan, along with responsible media outlets, would continue to counter and expose such coordinated disinformation efforts.

The information minister also acknowledged and appreciated the role of Pakistani journalists and social media influencers, calling their efforts in revealing the false narrative both significant and praiseworthy.
