PM Shehbaz announces Rs150 million cash prize for Arshad Nadeem

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Rs150 million cash prize for the Olympic Champion of Javelin throw Arshad Nadeem.

He was addressing a banquet arranged in honour of the Olympic Champion of Javelin throw Arshad Nadeem in Islamabad on Tuesday night.

Paying rich tribute to Arshad Nadeem for his huge success in Paris Olympics 2024, the premier said that Arshad Nadeem is the bright example for all young athletes.

“Success of Arshad Nadeem provides an ample prove that meager resources, difficulties and challenges are not the hurdle in the way of success,” the premier said.

He announced to name Road between F9 and F10 sectors in Islamabad after Arshad Nadeem.

PM Shehbaz also announced the establishment of Arshad Nadeem High Performance Academy at the Jinnah Stadium Islamabad, where athletes and players will be trained for the 2028 Olympics.

He also announced a sports endowment fund of Rs1 billion.

The prime minister also announced the award of Hilal Imtiaz to Arshad Nadeem for his excellent performance and winning gold medal for Pakistan in Olympics after 40 years.

Speaking on the occasion, Arshad expressed gratitude towards his family and the nation for their prayers, which he said had enabled him to break the Olympic record for the javelin throw event.

He also thanked public for the welcome upon his arrival to Pakistan, saying it was “even more so than my medal”.

The Olympic winner pledged to "train fully for all upcoming competitions" and make another world record.

Arshad Nadeem along with his mother and family received a grand welcome by PM Shehbaz when they reached the Prime Minister House.

Earlier, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accorded a warm welcome to Nadeem and his family, who arrived in Islamabad on a charter plane, at the Nur Khan Airbase. Nadeem's entourage were given state protocol.
