US President Trump joins Egypt, Qatar and Turkey in signing Gaza peace deal

Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt (Web Desk): The leaders of US, Egypt, Turkiye and Qatar have signed a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas during a peace summit in Egyptian city Sharm el-Sheikh, marking a landmark moment in efforts to bring lasting stability to the Middle East.

The event was attended by several world leaders, including Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, U.S. President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, among others.

In his address at the ceremony, U.S. President Donald Trump hailed the agreement as a “historic breakthrough” toward peace in the Middle East. “Today marks a historic day for the people of Gaza,” he said, adding that the accord was the result of months of intensive diplomatic efforts, negotiations, and the collective support of friendly nations.

President Trump emphasized that the peace deal not only paves the way for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza but also opens doors for reconstruction and economic revival in the region. Acknowledging Cairo’s instrumental role, he noted, “Egypt has played a crucial and constructive role in facilitating the Gaza Peace Agreement.”

Reaffirming Washington’s commitment to regional stability, Trump said the United States remains dedicated to promoting enduring peace, security, and prosperity across the Middle East, and the agreement represents a significant step in that direction.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who attended the ceremony as Pakistan’s representative, expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for their right to peace and self-determination.

On the sidelines of the summit, PM Shehbaz also held meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other world leaders to discuss ways of supporting post-conflict recovery efforts in Gaza.

Earlier on Monday, all 20 surviving hostages held by Hamas were released along with hundreds of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails, following a ceasefire that temporarily ended two years of intense warfare in Gaza—a conflict that left tens of thousands of Palestinians dead and the territory in ruins.

The Gaza Peace Agreement encompasses provisions for a permanent ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners, restoration of humanitarian aid, and the initiation of large-scale reconstruction projects. These measures collectively aim to establish lasting peace, stability, and hope for the war-torn Gaza Strip after years of conflict.
