Islamabad (Web Desk): A cold wave is likely to spell over country from October 14 to October 17, under the impact of snowfall on mountains and rain in parts of the country, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Thursday.
Snow on mountains are expected in upper parts of the country, including and rains and windstorms with occasional gaps in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, from October 14 to October 17.
PMD issued an advisory on Thursday informing that “informed that a westerly system is likely to enter upper parts on 13th (evening/night) and likely to spread upper/central parts on 14th (night)”
According to PMD Rain and wind/thunderstorm with moderate to isolated heavy falls is expected in areas like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Swabi, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan from the evening/night 13th to 17th with occasional gaps.
Also, rain and wind/thunderstorm with moderate to isolated heavy falls is expected in Kashmir, and Gilgit from the night of 13th to 17th.
Meanwhile, Snowfall over the high mountains and isolated hailstorm in plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgilt-Baltistan are expected during the forecast period.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm is expected in Islamabad, Potohar region, Murree, Galiyat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Khushab, Noorpurthal, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Kasur from October 13 to 17.
Similar weather is expected in Layyah, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan from the evening/night of 16th to 18th with occasional gaps.
Similarly, Rain and wind-thunderstorm is also expected in Sindh (Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar and Umerkot) and Balochistan (Sherani, Musa Khel, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibbi, Bolan, Kalat, Harnai, Naseerabad, Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Qila Abdullah, Pishin, Quetta and Ziarat) on the evening/night of 17th and 18th.
PMD advisory further said that Moderate to heavy falls may increase water flows in local Nullahs/streams and may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra & Abbottabad during the spell. Heavy rain may generate urban flooding in Rawalpindi and Lahore on 15th (evening/night) & 16th.
Moreover, Temperatures are likely to drop significantly.
