Doha (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday paid a one-day visit to Doha to personally extend condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan following the death of Qatar’s former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the delegation accompanying the premier included former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and other senior government officials.
During the visit, PM Shehbaz and the Pakistani delegation met Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and expressed their sincere sympathies over the passing of on the passing of his father and former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The prime minister paid glowing tribute to the late leader, describing him as a visionary statesman whose leadership played a defining role in Qatar’s remarkable progress while also contributing significantly to regional peace, stability and development.
Recalling the late emir’s close relationship with Pakistan, PM Shehbaz said that Sheikh Hamad had always shown warmth, generosity and deep affection towards the Pakistani people, adding that his numerous visits to Pakistan would always be remembered.
The prime minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the leadership and people of Qatar during this period of profound grief and prayed that Allah Almighty grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdaus and bestow strength upon the Royal family and the Qatari nation to bear this irreparable loss.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani thanked PM Shehbaz and former premier Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the Pakistani delegation for travelling to Doha to offer condolences in person.
He said the gesture reflected the longstanding brotherly relationship and close friendship shared by the two countries and their peoples.

The statement added that the visit reflects the long-standing and close brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Qatar, highlighting the enduring bonds shared by the leadership and people of both nations.
Qatar announced on Sunday that its former ruler, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, had passed away at the age of 74.
An official government statement confirmed the death of the former emir, who led the Gulf nation from 1995 until 2013.
Sheikh Hamad is widely credited with laying the foundations of modern Qatar, overseeing a remarkable period of economic progress and national transformation during his years in power.
In response to his passing, the Government of Pakistan declared Monday as a day of national mourning to honour the late Qatari leader.
A notification issued by the Cabinet Division and shared by the PMO stated that the national flag would be flown at half-mast throughout the country as a mark of respect.
