Vance says Pakistan played constructive role in US-Iran talks, lauds PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir

Islamabad (Web Desk): US Vice President JD Vance has said that Pakistan played a constructive role in the US-Iran peace talks.

While addressing reporters in Islamabad shortly before his departure, the US vice president appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing them as gracious hosts who made sincere efforts to help both sides find common ground.

“Both incredible hosts, and whatever shortcomings of the negotiation, it wasn't because of the Pakistanis who did an amazing job and really tried to help us and the Iranians bridge the gap and get to a deal," he said.

Vance further stated that the US has put forward what he described as a comprehensive, workable, and concluding proposal to Iran, adding that the response from Tehran will determine the next course of action.

He also underlined that Washington requires a more solid and unequivocal assurance from Iran that it will refrain from pursuing nuclear weapons in order for any agreement to move ahead.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued its own statement, indicating that its delegation had entered the discussions with a constructive and open approach.

In a message shared online, the ministry’s spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, characterized the negotiations as detailed and demanding, while stressing that their success ultimately depends on the level of sincerity and genuine intent shown by the other side.
