Wana (Web Desk): Maulana Hafiz Sultan Muhammad Haqqani, a senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), lost his life on Saturday after being critically injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Lower Waziristan, an incident reportedly carried out by foreign militants.
According to media reports, the attack occurred on Friday in Wana while Maulana Haqqani was returning home from a madrassa. The blast left him gravely wounded and also targeted his daughter.
He was immediately taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana for emergency care.
As his condition continued to worsen, he was shifted to Dera Ismail Khan for advanced treatment, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, achieving martyrdom.
Maulana Haqqani was a prominent figure in Lower Waziristan, serving as a senior JUI leader, a Wifaq-ul-Madaris al-Arabia representative, and the principal of Jamia Dar-ul-Uloom Ashrafia.
His death has sent waves of grief across both religious and political communities.
JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous act, and called for an immediate investigation along with strict accountability for those responsible.
