Bilawal Bhutto visits Guddu Barrage, reaffirms PPP's solidarity with flood-affected families

Guddu (Web Desk): In response to rising flood concerns following heavy monsoon rains, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid a visit to the Guddu Barrage on Monday to personally evaluate the situation and ensure that emergency measures are in place to protect vulnerable communities.

During his visit, Bilawal was given a comprehensive briefing by irrigation and disaster management officials regarding the current water discharge levels, upstream and downstream flow, and the structural integrity of the barrage. Authorities also informed him of the preventive steps taken to safeguard nearby villages that are at risk of being inundated due to the swelling river.

The PPP Chairman expressed deep concern over the potential humanitarian crisis and emphasized the need for a rapid and coordinated response. He directed local administration, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and other concerned departments to immediately scale up relief operations in areas likely to be affected or already experiencing water intrusion.

“The protection and well-being of the people must be our top priority. Relief efforts must not be delayed, and there should be zero tolerance for inefficiency,” Bilawal stated during the media interaction at the site.
He assured residents that the PPP leadership stands firmly with the flood-affected population, and all necessary political and administrative support would be extended to ease their suffering. Bilawal also emphasized the importance of real-time monitoring, adequate medical supplies, safe drinking water, and temporary shelter arrangements for displaced families.

Party sources indicated that Bilawal is receiving daily reports on the evolving flood situation and is in close contact with Sindh and federal authorities to mobilize resources where needed.

Local community leaders welcomed Bilawal’s visit, noting that his presence in the flood-hit region reflects the party’s commitment to standing by its constituents during natural disasters. Many residents voiced concerns over potential crop damage and livestock losses, calling for financial compensation and long-term rehabilitation plans.

Environmental experts have also cautioned that the rising water levels in the Indus River system could continue for several days, and downstream areas remain vulnerable.

Bilawal’s visit is being seen as a critical move to reinforce government accountability and encourage proactive disaster management in one of the country’s most flood-prone regions.
