Dengue cases in KP reach 5,456, Punjab intensifies action on SOP violations

Peshawar (Web Desk): The number of dengue virus infections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to 5,456, according to the provincial health department. In the last 24 hours alone, 21 new cases were reported across the province, with 34 patients currently receiving treatment in various hospitals. District-wise data shows that Charsadda remains the most affected area with 1,100 cases, followed by Peshawar with 647 cases, Kohat with 635, Mardan with 469, and Mansehra with 439.

Meanwhile, in Multan, the District Health Authority has intensified its crackdown after dengue larvae were found at multiple locations. The CEO of Health Multan reported that five FIRs were registered in the last 24 hours — three against restaurants and two against factories — for failing to comply with dengue prevention regulations. In addition, 120 notices were issued for non-compliance with dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The CEO emphasized that strict action would continue against those failing to implement preventive measures.

In Sindh, four more dengue-related deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, raising the total death toll for the year to 25. The Sindh Health Department also recorded 1,192 new cases, including 642 in Karachi and 550 in Hyderabad. The total number of dengue cases in the province this year has reached 10,502, with 227 patients currently being treated in government hospitals and 212 in private facilities.

Health officials across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh have urged citizens to eliminate stagnant water and ensure regular cleaning to prevent the further spread of the virus.
