Under Taliban regime, Afghan soil becomes safe haven for global terrorist organizations: report 

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Afghan soil, under the Taliban regime, is being described as a refuge for several international militant groups, including Al-Qaeda and Daesh.

The annual United States (US) Counter-Terrorism Report 2026 highlights that Afghanistan continues to remain the most significant center of terrorist threats globally.

The report further notes that the individual considered the key planner of the Abbey Gate bombing was detained within 43 days of the incident.

That attack, formally known as the Abbey Gate attack, resulted in the deaths of 13 US military personnel.

It is also stated that Pakistan played a decisive role in the arrest of the main suspect, who was subsequently handed over to the US.

In response to this development, US President Donald Trump reportedly expressed appreciation to Pakistan.

According to the report, the US has decided to step up its counter-terrorism operations against major anti-American groups, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS Khorasan.

Washington has also categorised these organisations as major security threats and announced plans to increase support for partner countries involved in counter-terrorism efforts.

Security experts believe that Pakistan’s role has become increasingly important due to its extensive experience in fighting terrorism and being one of the countries most affected by it.

Analysts further suggest that the US is now viewing Afghanistan more as an ongoing security concern rather than a fully stable state, which they see as an indication of growing international concern over alleged militant activity linked to the Taliban regime.
