NEPRA reduces electricity price by Rs1.99 per unit

Islamabad (Web Desk): In a major relief for electricity consumers struggling with high utility bills, the federal government has approved a reduction in electricity tariffs, following which the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a formal notification.

According to details, the electricity price has been reduced by Rs 1.99 per unit across the country. This decision is expected to provide a significant financial relief of Rs 67.173 billion to consumers nationwide.

NEPRA stated that the reduction has been made under the quarterly adjustment mechanism for the period of January to March 2026.

The adjustment reflects changes in power generation costs and other financial factors reviewed during the regulatory process.

The tariff cut will be applicable to electricity bills from June to August 2026, meaning consumers will benefit over the next three months billing cycle.

During this period, households, businesses, and industrial users are expected to experience a noticeable reduction in their monthly electricity expenses.

Officials confirmed that the relief will be uniformly applied across the country, ensuring that all categories of consumers receive the same benefit without regional discrimination.

Energy sector experts believe this reduction will provide short-term relief to consumers facing inflationary pressure, although long-term stability in electricity pricing will depend on fuel costs, power generation efficiency, and future policy decisions.
