NADRA warns of possible penalties over delayed CNIC renewal

Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has urged citizens to renew their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) before they expire, warning that expired cards can affect access to bank accounts, mobile SIMs, and other government and welfare services.

According to a NADRA spokesperson, millions of CNICs and other official documents have already expired. Citizens are regularly reminded via SMS to renew their documents on time.

Individuals turning 18 are advised to obtain their CNICs immediately, as an active CNIC is mandatory for mobile services under PTA regulations. Mobile SIMs linked to expired CNICs may be blocked.

Currently, over 8.1 million mobile SIMs are active under expired CNICs, highlighting the urgent need for renewal.

NADRA also warned that SIMs registered under deceased individuals may be deactivated at any time, and citizens should transfer such SIMs to their own names.

NADRA added that delays in renewing CNICs after June may incur additional fees or penalties. Renewals can be completed conveniently through NADRA centers, the Pak-ID app, or e-Sahulat services.
