NDMA issues moderate to heavy rain alert for Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent warning about heavy rainfall expected in parts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan over the next 12 to 24 hours.

The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has indicated that northeastern and southern regions of Punjab, including Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Chiniot, and Sargodha, may witness scattered showers.

More intense and thunderous rain is predicted in areas such as Multan, Layyah, Khanewal, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanpur, Rajanpur, Liaqatpur, Zahir Pir, Sadiqabad, and Rahim Yar Khan. The NEOC cautioned that these conditions could trigger urban flooding, overflowing streams, and landslides in elevated terrain.

In Sindh, heavy rainfall combined with strong winds is expected in southern districts, affecting Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Mithi, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Adam, Hyderabad, Karachi, and nearby localities. Meanwhile, light and intermittent showers are likely across upper and central Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Jamshoro, and surrounding areas.

Several districts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Loralai, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Sui, Khuzdar, Awaran, Barkhan, and Lasbela, are forecast to receive sporadic rainfall with thunderstorms. Authorities warned that strong winds and storms could result in landslides, overflowing streams, uprooted trees, and power outages.

Officials have advised the public, particularly those traveling, to remain vigilant and follow updates on the evolving weather situation.
