PM hails Pakistan's role in securing US-Iran ceasefire as ' historic moment of honour’, vows continued efforts for lasting peace 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday described Pakistan’s recent diplomatic role in defusing regional tensions as “the most historic moment of honour” in the country’s history.

He said the achievement was a testament to national unity, the close coordination between civilian and military leadership, and Pakistan’s genuine commitment to promoting peace among neighbouring nations.

As the premier arrived for the cabinet meeting, he was greeted with a standing ovation from ministers and attendees.

Addressing the meeting, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan had been granted a rare honour by helping avert a potentially dangerous conflict that could have engulfed not only the region but also impacted the wider world.

He stressed that this accomplishment was the result of combined efforts, the prayers of the nation, and leadership’s dedication to preventing escalation among Muslim nations.

He noted that the tensions, which had been building for over a month, were now temporarily contained for two weeks, and he expressed hope that this period would evolve into a permanent ceasefire and lasting peace.

The prime minister highlighted that close coordination between political and military leadership played a decisive role in the diplomatic breakthrough.

He said the shared determination of both institutions showed sincerity and commitment to preventing a conflict that could have fractured Muslim nations united by faith and shared values.

PM Shehbaz specifically acknowledged Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their tireless efforts to facilitate diplomatic engagement.

He also commended Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for maintaining continuous dialogue with international leaders, including those in the United States and Iran, to reduce tensions.

PM Shehbaz extended gratitude to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump for responding positively to Pakistan’s outreach and supporting a temporary ceasefire.

He also thanked friendly countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Türkiye, Indonesia, Egypt, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, and China for backing Pakistan’s peace initiative.

Referring to his recent conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman following attacks on Saudi energy facilities, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the Kingdom. He noted that the leadership of both nations reaffirmed their brotherly ties and mutual support.

He emphasized that the temporary ceasefire was only the beginning and said Pakistan would continue working with international partners to achieve lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

PM Shehbaz informed the cabinet that delegations from the United States and Iran were expected to visit Pakistan soon to sustain the momentum of diplomatic engagement.

The prime minister also highlighted the government’s success in managing economic pressures, including inflation, through coordinated policies and targeted subsidies to shield citizens from rising prices.

He expressed appreciation for the guidance and support of President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during the crisis, as well as coalition partners and provincial leadership for demonstrating unity at a crucial time.

PM Shehbaz stressed that the diplomatic achievement belonged not to any individual or government but to the entire nation—from workers and farmers to professionals and public servants. He added that Pakistan had emerged stronger and more respected on the global stage.

“Pakistan has changed forever,” he said, observing that from Karachi to Peshawar, the country was now regarded with renewed dignity and respect worldwide because of its responsible and constructive role in fostering peace.
