Islamabad (Staff Report): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday notified the final results for the general elections, issuing a list of the winning candidates of the national and provincial assemblies.
According to the ECP notification, result in 16 National Assembly constituencies has been withheld due to different reasons.
The two seats out of these sixteen are those where Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan contested the election.
However, the notifications issued for his wins in NA-35 (Bannu), NA-95 (Mianwali-I) and NA-243 (Karachi East-II) will be subject to the ECP's final decision in pending cases pertaining to violation of its code of conduct.
Moreover, the independent candidates now have three days to join a party after which final list of the positions of the parties will be issued.
The notifications to successful candidates from reserved seats will be issued after the final list of positions of political parties is compiled. Candidates from reserved seats will be notified within two days after independent candidates join political parties.
The ECP stated that the political parties have submitted their lists of preferences for reserved seats.
Assembly sessions will be called after the electoral body will have notified all successful candidates.
The candidates will elect the speaker of the House along with the prime minister after taking oath in the National Assembly.
On July 28, the Election Commission had announced complete provisional results of the general election held in the country on July 25.
According to the electoral rolls, 105.96 million voters were eligible to cast the vote.
The voters from 85,307 constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies cast ballots in favour of the 11,855 contesting candidates.
Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as the majority party in the National Assembly of Pakistan by securing 115 out of total 342 seats in the general elections.
PTI has claimed that it bags the required number of seats to form the government in centre and Punjab.
