Malaysia to import $200m halal meat from Pakistan, MoUs signed to boost cooperation in multiple sectors

Kuala Lumpur (Web Desk): Pakistan and Malaysia on Monday vowed to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, education, Halal certification, and anti-corruption efforts, with Malaysia announcing to import $200 million worth of Halal meat from Pakistan.

The development came as Pakistan and Malaysia on Monday signed six important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) designed to enhance mutual collaboration in diverse areas including education, Halal certification, tourism, anti-corruption initiatives, and small and medium enterprise development.

The signing ceremony took place at the Perdana Putra Complex — the office of the Malaysian Prime Minister — during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Malaysia, undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Both leaders attended the ceremony following their bilateral discussions and delegation-level talks.

One of the agreements focused on strengthening cooperation in the training of diplomats, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding between Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy and Malaysia’s Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR).

The documents were exchanged by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Malaysian Foreign Minister Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan.

Another MoU was signed to promote collaboration in higher education, with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Malaysia’s Higher Education Minister Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir exchanging the documents on behalf of their respective governments.

Cooperation in the tourism sector was also advanced through an MoU signed between the two governments.

The documents were exchanged by Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism Tiong King Sing and Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.

The two countries further strengthened their partnership in the Halal industry by signing an MoU on Halal Certification.

The accord was exchanged between Malaysia’s Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs Dr. Haji Mohd Na’im Bin Haji Mokhtar and Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.

An MoU was also finalized to reinforce collaboration in the fight against corruption and to support preventive measures. The exchange of documents took place between Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Azam Bin Baki and Deputy Chairman of Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau Sohail Nasir.

The sixth agreement aimed to deepen cooperation between Pakistan’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Malaysia’s SME Corporation. Chief Executive Officer of SME Corp Malaysia Rizal bin Dato’ Nainy and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi exchanged the documents on behalf of their respective institutions.
