Munnu Bhai remembered on 93rd birth anniversary

Lahore (Web Desk): The 93rd birth anniversary of Munnu Bhai, one of Pakistan’s most cherished columnists, poets and playwrights, is being observed today (Friday).

Born as Munir Ahmed Qureshi on February 6, 1933, in Wazirabad, he discovered a love for writing early in life, which eventually shaped a career devoted to literature, journalism, and television.

After completing his education at Gordon College in Rawalpindi, Munnu Bhai began a professional journey in journalism, holding significant administrative positions at several newspapers.

His creative instincts soon found an outlet in television, and in 1982, he captured the nation’s attention with the immensely popular PTV drama Sona Chandi, a work that still holds a special place in viewers’ hearts.

He later penned other notable dramas, including Dasht and Ashiana, which further cemented his reputation as a master storyteller.

Alongside his contributions to television, Munnu Bhai was a prolific columnist, producing thousands of writings over the years.

His literary achievements also include acclaimed books such as Mohabbat Ki Ek Sau Nazmein, Jangal Udaas Hai, and Insani Manzar Nama, which left a lasting imprint on Pakistan’s literary and cultural landscape.

Beyond his literary and journalistic pursuits, he was deeply committed to humanitarian causes. He established the Sundas Foundation to support children affected by thalassemia, reflecting his compassion and dedication to social welfare.

His remarkable contributions were recognized when he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for his services to literature and journalism.

Munnu Bhai passed away on January 19, 2018, in Lahore, but his words, stories, and humanitarian spirit continue to inspire generations across the country.
