Munnu Bhai remembered on his 8th death anniversary

Lahore (Web Desk): The 8th death anniversary of the distinguished columnist, poet and playwright, Munnu Bhai, is being observed today (Monday).

Born in 1933 in Abbottabad, he was named Munir Ahmed Qureshi at birth.

After completing his studies at Gordon College in Rawalpindi, he began a professional journey that saw him serve in key administrative roles at several newspapers.

Writing was close to his heart from an early age, and his early interest in poetry gradually evolved into a lifelong creative commitment.

In 1982, Munnu Bhai gained widespread recognition after writing the PTV drama Sona Chandi, which became immensely popular with audiences.

He later went on to create other well-known television dramas, including Dasht and Ashiana.

Alongside his dramatic works, Munnu Bhai remained a prolific columnist, producing thousands of columns over the years.

His literary contributions also include acclaimed books such as Mohabbat Ki Ek Sau Nazmein, Jangal Udaas Hai, and Insani Manzar Nama.

Munnu Bhai's work left a lasting imprint on Pakistan’s literary and media landscape.

Beyond literature and journalism, he was deeply involved in humanitarian work and founded the Sundas Foundation to support children affected by thalassemia.

His remarkable services to journalism and literature were formally recognized when he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

Munnu Bhai passed away on January 19, 2018, and was laid to rest in Lahore.
