Bilawal vists flood-hit Punjab, praises CM Maryam’s relief response

Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari toured flood-hit areas across Punjab, distributing food aid and engaging directly with affected families and farmers. The trip highlighted the monumental scale of the devastation and emphasized the urgent need for federal intervention.

Bilawal lauded Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her administration’s efforts, describing them as “commendable,” but underscored that the crisis’s magnitude exceeded what provincial authorities could handle alone.

“This catastrophe is beyond the capacity of the Punjab government alone; the federal government must intervene without delay,” Bilawal stated during a press briefing.
He proposed immediate measures, including:

Declaring a national agricultural emergency
Offering subsidized seeds, fertilizers, and support services to farmers
Expanding Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) funds to assist displaced families
India Accused of Violating Indus Waters Treaty
In a pointed critique, Bilawal called out the Modi administration for allegedly breaching the Indus Waters Treaty by withholding river flow data during the floods—an action he labeled “a blatant violation of international law.”

He further accused India of deploying water as a tool of aggression against Pakistan, urging the international community to uphold water-sharing norms and enforce treaty compliance.

Before concluding his engagement, Bilawal directed PPP representatives and workers to ramp up relief efforts and ensure vital services reach flood-affected populations swiftly.
