President, PM felicitate Sikh community on Baba Guru Nanak's birth anniversary

Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended heartiest greetings to the Sikh community in Pakistan and across the world on the occasion of the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, being celebrated in Nankana Sahib today.

In their separate messages, the President and the Prime Minister paid rich tribute to Baba Guru Nanak, describing him as a symbol of peace, compassion, and equality.

They noted that his teachings, which emphasize love for mankind, selfless devotion, and harmony among followers of all faiths, continue to hold universal relevance and guide people toward mutual respect and understanding.

The president and the premier reaffirmed that Pakistan cherishes its role as the custodian of sacred Gurdwaras associated with the life and legacy of Baba Guru Nanak.

They reiterated the government’s unwavering resolve to safeguard the rights of religious minorities and to ensure the preservation and easy access to Sikh places of worship across the country.

The celebrations for 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh religion, began on November 3 (Monday) with great devotion and enthusiasm.

Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from within Pakistan and various parts of the world have arrived in Nankana Sahib to take part in the festivities.

The celebrations will officially commence with religious rituals at Gurdwara Janam Asthan, the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak in Nankana Sahib, where the main event is scheduled for Wednesday (today).

During their spiritual journey, Sikh devotees will also visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdal and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Narowal, to offer prayers and pay respects.
