Lahore (Web Desk): The celebrations for 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh religion, begin today (Monday) with great devotion and enthusiasm.
Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from within Pakistan and various parts of the world have started arriving in Nankana Sahib to take part in the festivities.
The celebrations will officially commence with religious rituals at Gurdwara Janam Asthan, the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak in Nankana Sahib, where the main event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5.
During their spiritual journey, Sikh devotees will also visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdal and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Narowal, to offer prayers and pay respects.
According to the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, all necessary preparations for the Gurpurab ceremonies have been completed. The arrival of Sikh yatrees from different countries continues, while pilgrims from India are expected to enter Pakistan through the Wagah Border on November 4.
The ETPB, authorities said that arrangements covering accommodation, transportation, langar (community meals), healthcare, and cleanliness have been made in full coordination with the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC).
The officials stated that the special directives of Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf and ETPB Chairman Dr. Sajid Mahmood Chauhan, every visiting pilgrim will be accorded the highest respect and hospitality.
Stringent security measures have been put in place to ensure smooth celebrations, with Rangers, Police, Special Forces, and the ETPB Security Wing deployed at key locations.
Metal detectors have been installed at all major gurdwaras, and a zero-tolerance policy is being followed for security compliance.
Special transport arrangements have also been made for visiting delegations. Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib Hasan Abdal, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Farooqabad, and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur have all been adorned with lights and decorations in honor of the occasion.
Additional Secretary Shrines Nasir Mushtaq said that ETPB officials will remain on duty throughout the celebrations to ensure that the pilgrims face no inconvenience. “
We want our Sikh guests to experience Pakistan as a land of peace, respect, and affection and to return home with warm memories,” he remarked.
As per the official schedule, Sikh yatrees arriving on November 4 will be welcomed at the Wagah Border by Additional Secretary Shrines Nasir Mushtaq, PSGPC President Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, and other senior officers before proceeding to Nankana Sahib under security escort.
After attending the main ceremony on November 5, the pilgrims will travel to Gurdwara Sacha Sauda on November 6, followed by a one-day stay at Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdal.
On November 8, they will visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur and proceed to Gurdwara Rohri Sahib in Eminabad on November 10.
The yatrees will then stay for two days at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore before returning to India on November 13.
